Beach Cleaning Activities
Marine debris is polluting clean beaches and sandy shores. We, Tomas Institute of Technology, have been conducting beach cleaning activities with local NPOs and volunteers in Okinawa.
Our role is to incinerate marine debris at the location of beach cleaning activities with our mobile small incinerator “Mobile Chillimaser”. We will actively help improve the environment through the technology of a small incinerator manufacturer.
chura-mura, an Okinawa coastal conservation organization, introduced the “Mobile Chillimaser,” a small mobile incinerator used for beach cleaning activities.

October 2020 (Location: Nackori Beach, Yomitan Village)
To protect Okinawa’s treasure, the clean ocean, we volunteer to conduct beach cleanup activities under the auspices of Churamura, a non-profit organization in Okinawa.
Mr. Churamura is active mainly in sea turtle conservation and ecological activities, and in the beach cleanup, he has a passionate desire to “not just collect the trash that has washed ashore and call it a day, but also to responsibly dispose of the trash that has washed ashore.
Our company participated as a sponsor in this new activity, which is probably the world’s first attempt at a beach cleanup, in which a small incinerator is brought to the beach to incinerate the litter picked up on the spot. When the event was held, nearly 80 volunteers participated in the event.
The incinerator used was a “mobile chili maser,” which can be transported anywhere by a 4-ton unic truck! This activity is possible because the incinerator is small, easy to move, and does not emit smoke.
We will continue our activities and protect the clean ocean of Okinawa.
Beach Cleaning Activities Featured in Local Media
The local media recently featured the beach cleaning activities that Thomas Technical Research Institute participated in. We are happy to share the coverage with you.

World’s First! On-Site Beach Clean and Waste Incineration!
No dioxins produced!
Capable of handling disaster waste!
Developed by a passionate engineer from Amami Oshima, who loves the sea!
Introducing the Chirimeser, a small incinerator born in Okinawa, from Thomas Technical Research Institute.
Addressing the Marine Debris Problem
Marine debris is a threat to the ocean’s environment and is a global issue. On remote islands without waste disposal facilities, the waste must be transported by ship to areas with proper facilities. This is a serious problem in regions without access to waste processing infrastructure, both in Japan and abroad.
To tackle this issue, Thomas Technical Research Institute developed the Chirimeser, a small incinerator that is making strides in solving the problem of marine debris. The Chirimeser has unique features such as producing no smoke or odor when burning waste, dioxin emissions that are just 1/50th of the legal limit, minimized harmful substances, no need for official permits, and ease of maintenance. We interviewed Thomas Technical Research Institute to learn more about the Chirimeser.
Growing Interest Beyond Marine Debris
Recently, the Chirimeser has attracted attention not only for marine debris but also from construction and demolition companies. Internationally, it has been introduced in projects such as JICA’s initiative for medical waste disposal in Indonesia and general waste disposal in the Maldives. The machine is customized to meet the unique needs of each location, adapting to the specific environmental conditions where it’s installed.
World’s First Mobile Small Incinerator!
The Chirimeser is the world’s first mobile small incinerator that can burn waste collected from beach clean-ups right on the spot. Furthermore, Thomas Technical Research Institute is also working on thermal recycling (energy recovery and power generation) using the small incinerator.
Their goal is to pass on beautiful oceans to future generations—developed by engineers who truly love the sea.
Supporting Beach Cleaning Efforts Behind the Scenes with the Mobile Chirimeser
Thanks to Thomas Technical Research Institute, Okinawa’s only small incinerator manufacturer, we were able to use their Chirimeser to incinerate the marine debris on-site. The Chirimeser is an eco-friendly incinerator that produces no smoke and emits ultra-low levels of dioxins, allowing us to responsibly dispose of the waste while caring for the environment.
